Jets’ Sauce Gardner has hilarious response to talk of Aaron Rodgers running for vice president

Sauce Gardner couldn’t help but have a little fun with the craziest story of the day in New York sports.

The Jets cornerback became the first current member of the organization to comment on a Tuesday report that independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had quarterback Aaron Rodgers atop his list of preferred running mates.

The news came as a surprise to just about everyone when the New York Times first reported it Tuesday afternoon — a rep for Kennedy’s campaign confirmed to The Post that the candidate was “considering Aaron Rodgers and Jesse Ventura as running mates.”

“Ohhhh, Aaron bouta become the VP.. That’s why he ain’t been answering my text messages,” Gardner wrote on X late Tuesday night along with a thinking face emoji.

The Jets have not publicly commented on the report about Rodgers and the future Hall of Famer has not made any public statements either.

The Times reported Kennedy said he had spoken to Rodgers “pretty continuously” for the past month about the vice president nomination.

Rodgers and Kennedy’s thinking aligns in several areas including public heath policy and vaccines.

Both men have been staunch critics of the COVID-19 vaccine and the Jets quarterback had endorsed Kennedy as early as last April when pushing the hashtag “Kennedy2024” on social media.

The wild turn of events caused shock around the sporting world, with former Jet Damien Woody posting on X, “Man we are an unserious country.”

WFAN host Shaun Morash called it the “most Jets story of all time” and suggested that “If he’s ‘welcoming overtures,’ even if it’s at five percent, he’s not all-in on quarterbacking the Jets.”

Rodgers only played four snaps in his first season with the Jets, tearing his Achilles in the team’s opener against the Bills.

The Jets are counting on Rodgers returning under center this season as the team tries to makes good on its Super Bowl hopes.

Kennedy is expected to name a running mate in the coming weeks.
