J.D. Davis agrees to one-year contract with A’s after Mets reunion talks

J.D. Davis will not be wearing blue and orange again after all.

The corner infielder will be joining the Athletics on a one-year deal worth $2.5 million and up to $1 million incentives, The Post’s Jon Heyman confirmed.

Davis, 30, stays in the Bay Area after the Giants put him on waivers last Saturday and officially released him on Monday after signing third baseman Matt Chapman earlier in March.

The Post’s Joel Sherman reported Thursday that the Mets had “real interest” in reuniting with Davis, who played in New York from 2019 until his trade to San Francisco at the 2022 trade deadline.

Davis was slotted to make $6.9 million with the Giants this season but got just $1.1 million from the club after he was cut.

Per Sherman, Davis picked Oakland over the Mets due to more guaranteed playing time, as the Mets — who were among the finalists to land him — have Brett Baty and Mark Vientos slotted to get time at the hot corner to start the year.

Now, the Elk Grove, California native and Cal State Fullerton product remains in his home state, going from a team with playoff aspirations to one that lost 112 games in 2023.

Davis finished the 2022 campaign with a flourish, hitting eight homers with an .857 OPS with the Giants over the final 49 games.

He continued that hot stretch over the first half of last season with an .800 OPS through 84 contests, but he cratered in the back half of the season with a .207/.290/.359 slash line over the final 60 games.

Davis struggled as a defender for the Mets but ranked in the 90th percentile in outs above average last season, per Baseball Savant.

He has a career .775 OPS over seven big league seasons.
