Mets’ final Opening Day roster decisions settled by injury

The Mets have reached a conclusion on the final two spots in their bullpen.

Michael Tonkin and Yohan Ramirez were added to the Mets’ Opening Day roster Thursday and a third candidate from the group, Sean Reid-Foley, was placed on the injured list with a right shoulder impingement.

All three pitchers are without remaining minor league options.

Tonkin appeared in 45 games last season for the Braves and pitched to a 4.28 ERA.

The Mets signed him to a split contract in December and watched him enjoy a strong spring, in which he didn’t allow an earned run in his five appearances and showed he was capable of pitching multiple innings.

Ramirez was claimed off waivers from the White Sox in December following strong performances in the Dominican Winter League.

The right-hander, who relies on a sinker, pitched to a 1.80 ERA in seven appearances in the Grapefruit League and also showed he can handle multi-inning duty.

Reid-Foley was impressive early in camp but had biceps discomfort that sidelined him before he returned to pitch during the final weekend of spring training.

Edwin Diaz, Adam Ottavino, Brooks Raley, Jake Diekman, Drew Smith and Jorge Lopez are the six relievers who already had spots in the bullpen as the Mets broke camp.
