Charlamagne tha God blasts DEI as ‘mostly garbage and ‘just corporate PR’ in ‘Daily Show’ monologue
Comedian Charlamagne tha God blasted DEI as “mostly garbage” and insisted it’s “just corporate PR” while guest hosting “The Daily Show” Wednesday.
The television personality slammed diversity, equity and inclusion programs as ineffective during a monologue that poked fun at the initiatives many companies and organizations adopted in 2020 following the murder of George Floyd.
“The truth about DEI is that although it’s well-intentioned, it’s most garbage. OK? It’s kind of like the black Little Mermaid,” he said. “Just because racists hate it, doesn’t mean it’s good.
“And you know I’m right because every one of you has sat through one of those diversity training sessions and thought, this is some bulls–t.”
“The Breakfast Club” cohost then said more than 900 studies have indicated that DEI programs don’t improve workplace conditions for minorities as he also noted the number of black people in power at large corporations remains unchanged compared to five years ago.
“I’m not surprised these programs didn’t work and here’s why: It’s just corporate PR,” he said. “They want good vibes.”
“Real DEI is only going to come from black leadership,” he continued.
The monologue earned praise from some, including billionaire Elon Musk who shared “The Daily Show” footage X and raising hands emoji.
Charlamagne has never been shy about sharing his thoughts on various issues and has criticized both President Biden and former President Donald Trump.
He called Trump a threat to democracy last month in an ABC News interview while describing Biden as an “uninspiring candidate”
Charlamagne also said in December that Biden should move aside so another Democrat can run for president.
