God’s Misfits cult grandma Tifany Adams, accused of killing 2 Kansas moms, is ‘unhinged’ conspiracy theorist: pal

The Oklahoma grandmother accused of masterminding a scheme to kill two women over a custody battle realting to her grandkids posted increasingly disturbing messages on her now-defunct Facebook page before the murders.

Tifany Adams is “unhinged,” acccording to Leanne Webb, who met Adams last year at a political event and became friendly with her. “She has a lot of weird beliefs, and thinks that the rest of the world is corrupt. It was all conspiracy theories and stuff that didn’t make any sense.”

In February, Adams, 54, reposted an article which claimed modern society was living in a simulation. “She posted a few times a day sometimes, but it was all stuff like that,” says Webb.

Adams and her boyfriend, Tad Cullum, would often meet with their friends, Cole and Cora Twombly, to discuss their roles in a fringe group called God’s Misfits.

The four of them often posted anti-government rants on their respective Facebook pages. “It was just bizarre, bizarre stuff,” said Webb, who later unfriended them. “And they were going to raise [her grandkids] to believe the same things.”

Following the deaths of 27-year-old Veronica Butler and 39-year-old Jilian Kelley, who vanished on March 30, all four have been charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and conspiracy.

Adams is the paternal grandmother of Butler’s two children; the two women were locked in a contentious custody dispute.

Butler and Kelley disappeared on the way to Adams’ home, where they were planning to pick up the two children for a birthday party. Butler was only allowed supervised visits with her children and Kelley — a pastor’s wife —  was one of the supervisors approved by the courts. It does not appear that Kelley had a close relationship with the family.

Police believe the two women were ambushed and murdered by Adams, Cullum and the Twombleys. Their bodies were found two weeks later in a shallow grave on land leased by Cullum.

A stun gun was found at the scene; Adams and her friends had purchased five similar stun guns in the days before the murders.

In a probable cause affidavit by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations, authorities claim Adams openly admitted culpability for the murders.

“After her arrest on April 13, 2024, during a custodial interview, Adams made statements to law enforcement indicating she was responsible for the deaths of Butler and Kelley,” Lt. Amie Gates stated in the affidavit.

The affidavit also alleges that Adams wanted full custody of her grandchildren, and needed Butler out of the way.

Adams’ son, Wrangler Rickman, is the children’s father. He was in a rehabilitation facility in Oklahoma City at the time of the murders. He has previously complained on social media that his mother was trying to ‘steal his children’.

Adams, Cullum, and the Twombleys are represented by the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System (OIDS), the state agency responsible for representing clients who cannot afford private attorneys. The OIDS declined to comment on the charges.

The founder of God’s Misfits, who goes by the single moniker of “Squirrel,” has attempted to distance himself from the murderous Oklahoma foursome, saying the killings were part of a custody dispute and not part of the group’s teachings.

“I have no relation with them at all,” Squirrel told NewsNation’s Ashleigh Banfield on Monday. “The God that I serve condemns such hate.”

The four defendants are due in court for preliminary hearings next month. They have pleaded not guilty and are being held without bond.
