NYC thief steals $2.5K from man, mows him down with car then apparently lies about ordeal: cops

A violent thief stole $2,500 from a man in Brooklyn and then mowed him down with his car before apparently lying to paint himself as the victim, cops said.

An unidentified man ripped off the hefty sum from a 20-year-old man outside a luxury apartment building on Kent Avenue near South 8th Street around 7:40 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

He then hopped in his car and plowed over his victim, cops said.

The wounded man was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

The alleged crook apparently turned the tables when he talked to cops  – claiming three thieves approached him as he stood outside his car, with one of them demanding jewelry, police initially said.

The suspect first told police one member of the trio demanded his jewelry as the two other members of the crew stood off to the side, cops said.

He said he then got into his car – before the same man again asked him to hand over the goods, according to the initial narrative.

That’s when he claimed that one of the accomplices allegedly whipped out a gun and opened fire on the victim’s car but missed – and didn’t even cause any property damage, authorities said.

Then, according to the initial story, he plowed into the man who had first confronted him about the jewelry, cops said.

Video from the immediate aftermath of the incident, posted on X by Williamsburg News, shows the wounded suspect lying in the middle of the street, next to a pool of blood, as members of the Jewish Hatzalah ambulance service, as well as the Shomrim patrol, cops and EMTs surrounded him.

The alleged thief was taken into custody, but no charges had been filed by later Wednesday, police said.

The NYPD confirmed later Wednesday that no other suspects were involved in the stick-up, and no shots were fired during the ordeal.

It was unclear whether the suspect would be charged with filing a false report.
