Bryce Harper helped one high school senior’s dream come true.
Harper showed up for Jake Portella, a senior at Haddonfield Memorial High School in New Jersey, to make his dream promposal to classmate Giulia.
“Oh my god, Bryce Harper is at the door,” Giulia said while opening the door, “I’m going to cry.”
“Hi, Giulia,” Harper said, laughing at the doorstep. “Jake wants to ask you to prom, so I thought I’d help him out and see if you wanted to go to prom with him. So, will you go to prom with him?”
Giulia quickly answered “Yes!,” and promptly hugged the Phillies slugger.
“Oh my God, you’re the GOAT,” she said, before planting a hug on her prom date.
Giulia’s father also got in on the moment, shaking Harper’s hand.
The scene came together quickly: Portella told “The Phantastic Sports Show” on Monday that he lives in Harper’s neighborhood and shot his shot with the first baseman before shooting his shot with Giulia.
“I knocked on his door, he seemed cool with it at first, then he was like ‘Can I get your email so we can plan this out?’ and as I was leaving he was like ‘Why don’t we do this right now,” Jake told the Fox29 show. “I didn’t expect [Harper] to open the door in the first place.”
The results are a prom date, a viral moment a memory that will last a lifetime for the two high schoolers — and their home-run-hitting friend.
Harper will have to get any updates on the Haddonfield Memorial High School’s senior prom, scheduled for June 14, from Portella after the fact.
The Phillies who have a National League-best record of 34-14, will be busy that day in Baltimore to face the Orioles.
