The Phillies have the best record in MLB and have already opened up a five game lead on the Braves in the National League East.
It’s been a remarkable start to the season for a team that was a win away from back-to-back World Series appearances last year.
They are full of talent with young, rising stars.
A big part of their success is one of the guys that put the roster together and that’s president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski.
He joined Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman this week on “The Show” podcast to talk about his first place squad.
“The Show” podcast with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman:
- JUAN SOTO: Breaking down the future of Soto and whether he would stay with the Yankees. Could he go to the Mets? Will other teams be in the mix?
- ALONSO/METS: Will the Mets end up keeping Alonso or letting him go in free agency? What will Alonso’s next contract look like?
Dave Dombrowski Interview
Phillies President of Baseball Operations
- FIRST PLACE: Young players taking the next step they needed to. Being 20 games over .500.
- RANGER SUAREZ: Great command with his stuff. Has had issues in past coming into spring training. This was first spring in a few years they had him the full spring.
- MANAGER: Jim Leyland didn’t want to manage anymore. They wanted a different voice and someone internal. Rob Thomson was an obvious choice.
- WHAT HAPPENED LAST YEAR: Don’t believe the playoffs is a crapshoot.
- HIS FUTURE: Not putting a time frame on it. Under contract through 2027.
