Off-duty NYPD officer, 25, killed in upstate NY crash
An off-duty NYPD cop died in an upstate car crash Friday evening, officials said.
Police Officer Juliana Torsiello, a two-year veteran, was driving her 2008 BMW 328i east on County Road 51 between Blough Lane and Ridge Road in Orange County around 6 p.m. when she “failed to negotiate a right hand curve on a descending road,” a New York State Police trooper said.
The officer’s car entered oncoming traffic and collided with an embankment, where it went airborne and hit a tree, the trooper said. The vehicle then rolled over and landed on its roof.
Torsiello, 25, suffered blunt force trauma to the head. Her body was taken to the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Investigators were looking at the officer’s speed as a possible factor in the crash, the trooper said. He said an autopsy would determine if alcohol was present in the officers blood.
The officer worked in the 30th Precinct in West Harlem and joined the NYPD in December 2021.
