Darren Waller is peeling back the curtain on his personal life in a unique way.
As the Giants tight end continues to mull retirement, he dropped his new single, “Who Knew (Her Perspective),” on Thursday, a little over a month after news of his divorce from WNBA star Kelsey Plum broke.
“On February 3, I felt a strong conviction to do something different. I’d never written a song from the perspective of someone else until this. There’s something extremely valuable (and quite humbling lol) about putting yourself in the shoes of those you have been intimate with and taking an honest look at yourself. The only result possible is growth,” Waller, 31, said of the track in an Instagram post on May 24.
Waller, who also released a music video for the song, said the track is from “the viewpoint of a woman trying to love him,” according to TMZ.
In the three-minute clip, Waller stars alongside a brunette about a romance gone wrong, stating in the opening lyrics, “You know in life, it’s hard to love, it’s hard to be free, it’s hard to give all of your soul, have your heart broken in return.”
The release of Waller’s song comes weeks after a joint petition for a divorce was filed in Clark Country, Nevada, in April, according to online records viewed by The Post.
A “devastated” Plum suggested the marriage was over in a heartbreaking social media post shared around that time.
“I’m devastated,” the star Las Vegas Aces point guard began. “I walked through fire for that man, but now I see it’s time to go.
“God has given me such an incredible life, and I’m truly so grateful for the profound love from my family and friends. One day I’ll share my story, today is not that day.”
Waller wed Plum, a two-time WNBA champion, in March 2023.
Though Waller supported Plum during the Aces’ 2023 championship run last fall, speculation about their marriage percolated in early 2024 when the NFL pro posted a TikTok video that featured him dancing and mouthing the lyrics to a remix of The Delfonics’ song “Think It Over.”
The text featured in the video read, “When ya girl bout to leave you.”
Waller later told TMZ he was just joking around.
Plum, meanwhile, is currently chasing her third straight WNBA title with the Aces, who started the season 4-1.
