Costco issues recall of cheese after plastic pieces found in slices
Costco has issued a recall of Tillamook cheese slices after gray and black pieces of plastic were discovered in packs of the popular product.
The wholesaler published a letter on its website Saturday saying the recall pertained to 32-ounce packages of Tillamook Monterey Jack and Tillamook Colby Jack cheese slices with a use-by date of Oct. 22, 2024.
The impacted items are only produced for Costco locations in the Northwest.
“In an abundance of caution and as part of our commitment to product quality and safety at the highest
levels, we are voluntarily taking action to remove this product from the marketplace,” declared the letter, which was penned by Tillamook Executive Vice President Mike Bever.
Bever added that those who had already consumed any cheese slices from the impacted products “do not need to take any action.”
“The likely presence of the foreign plastic material is very minimal,” he indicated.
Meanwhile, those who have purchased — but not consumed — the affected Tillamook cheese slices are encouraged to return them to their Costco store for a full refund.
The Tillamook cheese slices aren’t the only item to have been recalled by Costco this year.
Back in February, multiple dairy products manufactured by Rizo-López Foods were recalled by the retail giant after a listeria outbreak.
