Kevin Spacey has not heard from Robin Wright since he was virtually banished from Hollywood following multiple allegations of sexual abuse.
In a new interview with Piers Morgan that came out Tuesday, Spacey, 64, confirmed that his “House of Cards” TV wife stopped talking to him after the scandal broke seven years ago.
“I haven’t heard from Robin … since September or October of 2017,” Spacey said.
However, the Oscar winner defended Wright, 58, for distancing herself from him and pushed back on the claims that she “stabbed him in the back.”
“No, and I reject your suggestion,” he said to Morgan, 59. “She is a wonderful person, a wonderful actress.”
Spacey and Wright were co-stars in “House of Cards” until Spacey was infamously dropped by Netflix in 2017.
The “American Beauty” star was accused of committing sex offenses against four men between 2004 and 2013 while he was serving as artistic director at London’s historic Old Vic theater. He was charged with nine separate counts — including sexual assault and causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity.
He faced life in prison if found guilty. However, he was deemed not guilty in July 2023 and acquitted of all nine charges.
Spacey also won a sex abuse case brought against him by actor Anthony Rapp in Manhattan in 2022.
When Morgan asked: “What’s your idea of bad behavior when you look back at what you were doing?,” Spacey replied: “Pushing the boundaries.”
“Being too handsy, touching someone sexually in a way that I didn’t know at the time they didn’t want,” he further explained. “I agree that the word ‘grope’ is a very odd word. I personally, I have caressed people, I have been gentle with people, that is the way that I am. You’re making a pass at someone, you don’t want to be aggressive. You want to be gentle. You want to see if they’re going to respond positively. I think the word itself is not a word that I associate with my experience.”
He continued: “Well, if I’ve learned anything, I’ve learned that a first move doesn’t have to be physical. There are ways to make a first move and find out if someone is interested or not, but I also believe that many people, they judge another human being from what they experience. So I am hopeful and I believe that I will be able to meet someone who is willing to judge me for what they experience and not from headlines.”
After Spacey was fired from “House of Cards,” Wright led the political thriller series by herself for its sixth and final season in 2018.
That year, Wright spoke about Spacey’s scandal on “Today.”
“I think we were all surprised, of course, and ultimately saddened,” she said. “We forged ahead, and we were so thankful that we were able to complete the series as planned.”
The “Moneyball” star continued: “Kevin and I knew each other between action and cut, and in between setups, where we would giggle. I didn’t know the man. I knew the incredible craftsman that he is.”
On “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” Spacey said that he thinks Netflix made the “wrong decision” in firing him because of the allegations.
“I think that we had a really remarkable relationship and I think that there is no doubt that ‘House of Cards’ really put them on the map. Even though they made the decision they made, which I think was a strange decision … I believe it was a wrong decision. I believe it was wrong for them as a company,” he explained. “I believe that it put them in a position where then anyone who was ever accused of anything, they had to respond in a similar way, although it does seem with Dave Chappelle that Ted Sarandos has learned to be supportive of controversial individuals … I do wish he had done it with me.”
“I believe that part of what ended up happening as a result of them, in a sense, getting rid of me so fast, was they sent a signal to everyone else. ‘Well, they had this long relationship, they must know what’s real,'” he went on. “And they didn’t know anything and they didn’t wait to find out what it was that might be discovered.”
He added, joking: “I haven’t Netflixed and chilled for a while myself!”
While Spacey was acquitted of the sexual assault charges, he said that he’s still struggling to work and make money. When Morgan asked Spacey how much money he has, Spacey responded, “None.”
“Well I mean, you have some sense of legal bills,” he said. “I still owe a lot of legal bills that I have not been able to pay.”
Spacey also claimed that he’s in “considerable” debt and owes “many millions.”
“What are you going to do?” Morgan asked him.
“Get back on the horse,” Spacey said.
