Ryan Garcia suspended one year, forced to forfeit $1 million from Devin Haney fight

Mercurial boxer Ryan Garcia’s week has added another twist.

One day after he announced on social media that he had “officially retired,” Garcia has been suspended for one year by the New York State Athletic Commission, according to ESPN.

Garcia, 25, will also have to forfeit the $1 million he won from his majority decision win to Golden Boy — which is now becoming a no-contest — over WBC super lightweight champion Devin Haney at Barclays Center in April.

Garcia has also been fined $10,000 by NYSAC.

The fighter tested positive for the performance-enhancing drug ostarine both on the day before and day of his fight with Haney, ESPN reported in May.

His B-sample later in May also came back positive for the PED.

Minutes after the news broke Thursday about his suspension, Garcia took to X with a few things to say, including one profanity-filled post.

“F–k you cry baby bitch,” he wrote in all caps over a photo of him punching Haney during their April 20 bout.

“They took my victory away,” Garcia wrote in another.

Haney posted on X about the suspension, calling it the “right thing.”

“Thank you too the commission for doing the right thing & making the right decision,” he wrote on Thursday afternoon. “I don’t understand how golden boy is getting any money as if they took any punches. They haven’t even spoke out about this PED situation..

“I’ll be back n one year.. I had all the belts already,” he added. “From now on I’m fighting at whatever weight I choose no longer fighting n weight classes.

Haney added that he felt as if he was “cheated.”

It’s been a hectic few weeks for Garcia since the win in Brooklyn after he was arrested in early June for allegedly causing property damage — of at least $15,000 — at the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills, California.

Now, it remains unclear when — or if — he will fight again.
