Teacher who had sex with two students — and got pregnant by one — cries at sentencing: ‘Breathtaking arrogance’
A British school teacher who had sex with two male teenage students — becoming pregnant by one of them — cried as she landed six and a half years in the slammer Thursday.
Disgraced 30-year-old Rebecca Joynes, a former gymnast, said she was lonely after a long-term relationship ended during COVID in trying to explain away her sick actions — which included buying one of her victims a Gucci belt before taking his virginity.
“There is a breathtaking arrogance in your conduct. You were the adult,” seethed Kate Cornell, the judge who sentenced Joynes, in the Manchester, England, case, according to reports.
“You were the person in control, the person who should have known better and entrusted by the school and the boys and by their parents of caring for their sons,” Cornell told the blond pedophile.
“Instead, you abused that position of trust and exploited the privileged role for your own sexual gratification.”
Joynes began working at Manchester High School as a math teacher in 2018.
The jury heard how she had groomed her victims — referred to in the trial as Boy A and Boy B — since the age of 15. She had sex with them when they were 15 and 16, the Telegraph reported.
Boy B, the father of her child, told the court he was “coerced, controlled, manipulated and sexually abused.”
The abuse “tore my family apart,” the boy said in his victim impact statement, noting how he struggled with giving evidence against the woman who gave birth to his child.
Boy A testified that Joynes sent him flirty messages on Snapchat and gifted him the $450 designer belt before taking his virginity.
Boy A’s mother had quickly found out the abuse, and Joynes was subsequently fired and turned into authorities.
But while out on bail, the sick former teacher shamelessly began a new relationship with Boy B and lied to him that she was infertile.
The day before Joynes’ second arrest, she planned a “date night” with Boy B and told him the news of her pregnancy.
“I was like, ‘What the f–k!’ ”, the boy said to police.
This year, she gave birth to their child, who was taken away from her the next day.
Though Joynes wept in the courtroom, claiming she had ruined her “dream job,” she denied any wrongdoing.
She outright rejected the notion that she had any sexual activity with Boy A and claimed her relationship with Boy B only began after he left school and she had been dismissed from her job.
Joyes was eventually found guilty on six counts of sexual activity with a child, according to a report by Sky News.
Boy B said the consequences of Joynes’ predatory actions will haunt him indefinitely.
“Ultimately, I will forever be Rebecca’s victim and forever linked to her through our child,” he said.
