Red Sox’s Rafael Devers breaks Fenway Park seat with 114 mph home run

Rafael Devers may be getting a bill for the seat he broke at Fenway Park on Sunday.

It shouldn’t be anything he can’t afford, but the Red Sox third baseman demolished a home run ball — flying off his bat at 114.7 mph, according to Statcast — that it busted one of the wooden seats in right field at Fenway Park.

An image posted by the Red Sox showed the end of the seat was busted, and the club shared the incident report, which stated: “Devers home run ball hit so hard it broke the back of the chair.”

No one was hurt by the ball and the seat was fixed by the fifth inning, NESN reported

The blast was Devers’ 23rd of the season and tied him for the sixth-most home runs this year with the Guardians’ Jose Ramirez.

The Red Sox won the game, 5-4, to move to 53-42 at the All-Star break.

Yankees slugger Aaron Judge leads the majors in home runs this season with 34.

Devers had entered the game with a .291 batting average and 59 RBIs.

He was selected for this week’s MLB All-Star game but opted not to go in order to rest his shoulder.

“The kid is locked in,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said, according to the Associated Press. “Just take care of him this week. He’s not going to Texas for a good reason, right. He wants to be ready for the second part, getting treatment during the week and keeping healthy.”

The Red Sox took Sunday’s game 5-4 to take the series with the Royals.
