Baseball’s newest “it couple,” Paul Skenes and Olivia “Livvy” Dunne, took the MLB All-Star Game red carpet by storm Tuesday afternoon as the Pirates’ rookie phenom and the LSU gymnastics star arrived to an adoring crowd outside Globe Life Stadium in Texas.
The two walked the red carpet with all eyes on them as Skenes rocked a white suit with a dark-colored tie and dark dress shoes, while Dunne dazzled in a “neutral-colored sparkly” floor-length dress.
Dunne told MLB Network that Skenes had picked out the outfit himself, with the pitcher jumping in to add, “Yeah, I can dress myself.”
The All-Star couple walked hand-in-hand before Skenes and Dunne paused to say hello to fans that lined the red carpet in Arlington.
Dunne and Skenes also stopped to pose for pictures, as she was seen cozying up to her Pirates pitcher boo with her left hand resting on his chest as the two smiled for the camera.
Skenes, 22, will be the starting pitcher for the National League All-Star team after tearing up the major since his debut on May 11.
The first overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft out of LSU — where the pair met — became the first rookie since Hideo Nomo to be named the starting pitcher for his respective league in the MLB All-Star Game.
Skenes credited the work he did during the offseason for his success this year at the big league level.
“Just putting in work throughout the offseason and having good coaching and having good people to workout with,” Skenes said.
The Pirates right-hander has gone 6-0 in 11 starts with a 1.90 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 66 ⅓ innings since his call-up.
Skenes has amazed baseball fans everywhere with his blistering fastball, which has averaged 99.1 mph.
His pitching has not only mesmerized fans but Dunne, 21, as well.
“My brain can’t even process how hard he throws,” Dunne said on the red carpet. “It is incredible and it’s such a joy to watch. He’s a great baseball player, but an even better person.”
