Fox News earns its highest July ratings ever to blow away cable rivals CNN, MSNBC

Fox News trounced its cable news rivals in July, helped by a jam-packed few weeks of news that made it the cable network’s most-viewed month ever, according to data from Nielsen Research Center.

The hefty viewership was bolstered by coverage of the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, the Republican National Convention and President Joe Biden’s announcement that he would suspend his reelection campaign.

The right-leaning network was the most watched cable news network during these events, far outpacing rivals CNN and MSNBC, according to Nielsen.

“Jesse Watters Primetime” led the charge with its highest month since the show premiered at the 8 p.m. time slot. The show — which beat “The Five’s” streak as the top Fox show — brought in 4.4 million viewers and nearly 600,000 viewers in the demo.

“The Five” was not too far behind, averaging 3.9 million viewers with nearly 400,000 viewers in the 25-54 demo.

Overall in primetime, Fox blew away its rivals, averaging around 3.5 million viewers and approximately 500,000 in in demo. Left-leaning MSNBC, meanwhile brought in about 1.2 million viewers and 82,000 in demo.

The struggling CNN — whose primetime lineup includes “Anderson Cooper 360” and “The Source with Kaitlan Collins” — amassed 856,000 viewers and a little over 200,000 in demo.

In daytime programming, Fox News averaged approximately 1.9 million viewers for the month, with more than 260,000 of those in the advertiser-coveted 25-54-year old demographic.

Meanwhile, MSNBC averaged 721,000 viewers and 82,000 in key demo, while CNN had 523,000 viewers and 111,000 in the demo.

In prior election years in 2020 and 2016, both MSNBC and CNN have shed viewers in the double digits while Fox has gained, Nielsen data revealed.

Fox’s total viewership rose by 17% in the daytime and 15% in primetime compared to 2020, while CNN lost more than 40% in daytime and primetime viewers, and MSNBC also dipped approximately 40% across the board.
