Video shows terrifying moment pickup truck plows into 2 men on NYC sidewalk
Shocking video captured the terrifying moment a pickup truck mounted a Harlem sidewalk and plowed into two pedestrians Monday.
The scary collision occurred just before 4:50 p.m. on the corner of St. Nicholas Ave. and West 148th Street when the truck driver “failed to navigate the roadway” and ended up careening down the sidewalk, police said.
The pickup struck two men, sending them flying into the roadway, before striking a fire hydrant and UPS truck parked on the street, surveillance footage of the crash shows.
One of the victims jumped up and ran back away from the truck following the crash while the other victim remained on the ground behind the pickup, according to the clip.
A subsequent video filmed by a bystander shows paramedics tending to the victim as he holds his head and lays on the roadway next to the wreck.
Emergency responders placed him on a stretcher and loaded him into an ambulance while a small crowd looked on.
A man who appears to be the other victim described to officers at the scene how the driver cut the corner and jumped the curb before striking him and the man on the ground, according to the Citizen app video.
“[The driver] cleared out both of us. I went up in the air, he went under,” he tells the cops in the clip.
The driver, who was uninjured, remained on the scene, police said.
“It could have been any one of us,” the woman filming the Citizen video said, adding that she heard the impact of the crash from the upper floor of a nearby building.
The two victims were taken to NYC Health and Hospitals Harlem in stable condition. More information about their injuries was not immediately available.
No charges had been filed Monday night as the investigation is ongoing.
