Ravens star Mark Andrews in car crash on way to practice, avoids injury

Ravens tight end Mark Andrews was in a car accident on way to practice Wednesday, the team announced.

Andrews, a veteran previously scheduled for a non-practice day, was evaluated by the Ravens medical staff and did not sustain any apparent injuries.

The 28-year-old will return to practice in the coming days, the team said.

Baltimore faces Atlanta on Saturday in its second preseason game.

“I appreciate everyone’s thoughts and well wishes,” Andrews said in a statement. “This is a great reminder about the importance of wearing seatbelts and remaining alert while driving a car.”

Andrews missed the second half of last regular season after suffering a severe ankle injury in a Nov. 16 game against the Bengals.

He returned for the AFC Championship Game loss to the Chiefs, catching two passes for 15 yards.

The 2018 third-round grabbed 45 passes for 544 yards and six touchdowns in his sixth season.

The car crash was the second transportation incident Andrews has been involved in recently.

On a flight in February, Andrews helped a doctor and nurse revive a woman having a medical emergency with his diabetic test kit.

Andrews and the Ravens are readying to defend their AFC North crown and look to repeat as the conference’s top seed.

Baltimore went 13-4 last season and downed the Texans in the divisional round before falling short at home against the eventual Super Bowl champions.

The Chiefs and Ravens will meet in an AFC Championship Game rematch in Kansas City when the NFL season kicks off on Sept. 5.

That matchup will feature two of the league’s top tight ends in Andrews and Travis Kelce, along with an MVP battle at quarterback featuring Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes.
