Ben Affleck didn’t show ‘any interest’ in fixing Jennifer Lopez marriage: ‘She was done waiting’
She didn’t feel true love, so it had to end.
Following Jennifer Lopez’s filing for divorce from husband Ben Affleck in Los Angeles on Tuesday, a new report alleges that she didn’t see any evidence that he was committed to making their marriage work — and she had enough.
The singer, 55, “was done waiting” for Affleck, 52, to show “any signs” that he wanted to make the union work, a source told People shortly after Lopez moved to officially split from the “Gone Girl” actor.
Lopez decided that “it’s time to move on,” another source told the outlet.
“She’s very disappointed and sad, but Ben hasn’t given her any signs that he wants to continue their marriage.”
“He hasn’t shown any commitment and interest in making their marriage work,” the source shared. “It’s gotten to the point that she just needs to look out for herself.”
“She tried really hard to make things work and is heartbroken,” another insider said. “The kids are a top priority, as they always have been.”
Affleck has three children from his previous marriage to actress Jennifer Garner, 52 – Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12. Lopez shares twins Emme and Max, 16, with her ex-husband, singer Marc Anthony.
Lopez was spotted taking Affleck’s son Samuel shopping on August 12, the same day that she reunited with him at his rental home in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles for the first time since May.
Lopez’s decision to file for divorce on the two-year anniversary of their second wedding ceremony comes after the couple spent the summer apart, with reports all but confirming that the end was imminent for the Hollywood pair, who made waves in 2021 when they rekindled their romance 18 years after they ended their first engagement.
The couple seemingly last saw each other on Affleck’s 52nd birthday. Per People, the star had a small “celebration at home” with his kids. Lopez “stopped by to congratulate him,” a source said. Jennifer Garner also made a pit stop at her ex’s LA rental home.
Later that night, Lopez was seen dancing her cares away at a Bruno Mars concert, getting down to the crooner’s song “Marry You,” no less.
In the divorce docs, Lopez listed the date of separation as April 26, 2024, according to TMZ. It was shortly after that date that Lopez stepped out to attend the Met Gala solo.
The couple’s divorce will likely be complicated by their alleged lack of a prenuptial agreement, leaving a huge pile of assets at stake. Under California law, all earnings, profits and assets the pair made during their marriage are considered common property.
When Bennifer got engaged for the second time in April 2022, Lopez couldn’t contain her excitement.
“Two very lucky people. Who got a second chance at true love,” she wrote in her On the JLo newsletter.
She also confirmed their July 2022 Las Vegas nuptials via her newsletter, saying she and Affleck had “the best possible wedding we could have imagined.”
Affleck, meanwhile, was more restrained in speaking publicly about their rekindled romance.
“One of the harder lessons that I have learned is that it’s not wise to share everything with the world,” Affleck said in a December 2021 interview with The Wall Street Journal.
Speaking of the “healthy boundaries” he has set in his life, he explained, “I just don’t want to be talking about my personal relationship in the newspaper.”
