Democrats gathered in Chicago are colonizing the word “freedom”: seizing a term Republicans have brandished for decades and bending it to mean their freedom to control your life, to tax you more — and even the freedom to control the market.
Look: Kamala Harris entered the convention having just dropped an “economic plan” that calls for nearly $2 trillion in more spending and for Washington to set grocery prices.
Those trillions have to come from somewhere, and some of it will be yet more federal borrowing — which would send inflation back to soaring, and inflation is effectively a tax on everyone, but especially on the working and middle classes.
She also wants to double the corporate tax, which impacts workers more than shareholders — and would also slow the economy, slamming job and wage growth.
All this to fund subsidies for Democrat-favored industries and a growing federal government — programs to “support” your “freedom to get ahead.”
This surely means the feds monitoring workplaces to ensure “fairness” — which quickly boils down to all the DEI nonsense that the left had been trying to justify in the name of “equity” and “equal outcomes.”
Even when Democrats use the word properly, they’re deceptive.
Says Tim Walz: “We’ve got a golden rule: ‘Mind your own damn business!’ ”
He means abortion, but that’s the only health care freedom Democrats want to protect.
Walz is the governor who set up a “snitch line” to help enforce his COVID lockdowns. Is closing schools and churches “freedom”?
Not to mention how the freedom “to control your own body” and “make your own health care decisions” vanished when Democrats sought to mandate COVID vaccines.
And also when the Obamacare law canceled the health insurance of tens of millions of Americans: Even the Washington Post classified President Barack Obama’s “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor” as a complete whopper.
Sorry: When the Harris-Walz Democrats talk up “freedom,” it’s just another word for everyone else losing.
