Izzy Nix is “so proud” of husband Bo Nix, who was named the Broncos’ starting quarterback Wednesday.
Taking to her Instagram Stories, Izzy — who has been married to the 24-year-old rookie since 2022 — posted a supportive message to the former Oregon star after Denver coach Sean Payton announced Nix as QB1.
“So proud of him,” Izzy gushed in response to an NFL post about the developments in Denver.
She also included the Bible verse, “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established,” from Proverbs 16:3.
Nix, the 12th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, impressed during training camp and in the Broncos’ preseason contests.
Last week against the Packers, Nix completed 8-of-9 passes for 80 yards and a touchdown in the 27-2 win.
“I came out here and was very comfortable with the first few plays that were called,” Nix said Sunday, according to ProFootballTalk. “They were kind of keeping it within my comfort level, and that’s huge, especially for someone who’s trying to get in there and execute. You want to run plays that you feel comfortable with, and that’s what coach Payton was calling tonight.”
Nix beat out veteran Jarrett Stidham, who started the final two games for the Broncos last season, and Zach Wilson, an April arrival following a trade from the Jets.
“I felt like, and I said this to you guys two weeks ago, you know, that room has been outstanding. Stidham, certainly with his experience, and then being able to work with Zach Wilson, all three of those guys. We’ve got some tough decisions as we get into the roster,” Payton said Wednesday, per NFL.com.
Nix is now the first rookie to start for the Broncos at quarterback since John Elway.
“Obviously, that’s great to share with such a great player like John Elway,” said Nix, who was the fifth quarterback taken in the first round of April’s draft.
“Doesn’t matter when your first start is. Doesn’t matter if you have to wait or you go right now, you just want to go out there and get the win, and ultimately compete at a high level. … So that’s what my goal is at the beginning is just to give our team the best chance to win games.”
The Broncos open the season against the Seahawks in Seattle on Sept. 8.
