Car kills 2 after plowing into Minn. restaurant’s patio; driver arrested for criminal vehicular homicide

Two people are dead after the driver of a car crashed into a Minnesota restaurant’s patio Sunday night, according to authorities.

Another three people were injured during the horrific crash that happened around 8 p.m. at Park Tavern in St. Louis Park, the city’s police force said.

The driver, who was only described as a man, drove into the parking lot and attempted to park before he drove into the patio, according to surveillance footage, police said.

The motorist was arrested for criminal vehicular homicide, though more information about the incident was not immediately released.

The identities of the two fatal victims have also not been released.

Patio furniture was thrown around and a car with front end damage was on the south side of the outdoor space, local outlet Bring Me The News reported.

The restaurant has been around for more than 60 years and describes itself as a “landmark” in the Minnesota city.

“Proud of our humble beginnings as a 3.2-tavern with room for only 50 guests, Park Tavern has grown to become a Twin Cities destination, hosting events for up to 500 people,” the restaurant says on its website.

“It brings up great joy to see multiple generations of families enjoying themselves here.”

Minnesota State Patrol was on the scene late Sunday to handle the crash reconstruction as the investigation remains active, St. Louis Park police said.
