Jeff McNeil exits with wrist contusion in Mets injury concern

The rolling Mets have found a reason for concern.

Jeff McNeil exited in the sixth inning of Friday’s 6-4, 10-inning win over the Reds at Citi Field with what the team called a right wrist contusion that will require testing Saturday.

An inning earlier, the second baseman showed bunt and pulled his bat back as a Brandon Williamson curveball plunked him on the wrist.

McNeil appeared to be in pain and got checked by a trainer, but he remained in the game — and completed a double play with a strong throw to first in the top of the sixth inning.

But by the time his spot in the order arrived in the bottom of the inning, McNeil’s wrist had swollen, manager Carlos Mendoza said.

Harrison Bader took the at-bat and struck out before Jose Iglesias shifted to second base in the seventh inning.

“We’ll see what we got,” Mendoza said of McNeil, whom he called day to day for now.

After a brutal first few months of the season, McNeil has been one of the Mets’ best hitters in the second half. Since July 19, the former batting champion is hitting .289 with seven home runs in 41 games.

If McNeil misses time, the obvious fill-in is Iglesias, who came through with a two-out RBI single in the sixth inning.

In what has been a magical season for Iglesias, he is now 10-for-20 with 11 RBIs with two outs and a runner in scoring position.
