LI motorist, 30, killed in fiery smash-up with drunk driver: cops
A Long Island motorist was killed in a smash-up with a drunk driver that caused his car to burst into flames on Long Island over the weekend, cops said.
A 30-year-old man was driving a 2015 Subaru east on Prospect Avenue before turning left onto Cantiague Rock Road in Hicksville around 11:20 p.m. Saturday when he struck a 2005 Honda – driven by Miguel Nolasco, 42 – heading west on Prospect Avenue, Nassau County Police said.
The impact caused the Subaru to burst into flames – trapping the unnamed driver inside, authorities aid.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, cops said.
Nolasco, of Roosevelt, was hospitalized for his injuries – and later arrested once investigators determined he was intoxicated at the time of the crash, police said.
He was charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, second-degree manslaughter and driving while intoxicated, cops said.
He will be arraigned when his medical condition allows, police said.
