It wasn’t the reveal she wanted.
“Selling Sunset” star and real estate agent Mary Bonnet, 44, claimed the show’s producers made her wait to find out whether she was pregnant.
In her new memoir “Selling Sunshine,” Bonnet details how, after a trip to Bali with her husband, Romain Bonnet, she had a “strong hunch” that she was pregnant.
The vice president of the Oppenheim Group wrote that she shared that hunch with the production team of the Netflix show.
“Naturally, they wanted to capture the entire thing on camera, so they asked me to wait to take the pregnancy test until they could be there,” she said.
In her book, she recalled responding, “Well, then you need to come over now, because I’m going to do it.”
But, she said the producers told her that they were in the middle of filming other scenes — so she had to wait to take her pregnancy test.
“I was like, ‘Are you kidding?’ ” she recalled.
“You’re going to delay us finding out whether or not we’re having a baby?! Can’t we just re-create the scene?”
She revealed she didn’t find out she was pregnant until the next morning, with the show’s crew there.
“In addition to my absolute astonishment, I suddenly became aware that I had cameras on me, recording my reaction, which made me hyper-focused on what I was saying and doing,” she wrote.
The scene ultimately appeared in the “Selling Sunset” Season 7 premiere, and her reveal to the rest of the cast was onscreen three episodes later. Now in its eighth season, the reality series follows the members of the high-end real estate brokerage firm the Oppenheim Group in their professional and personal lives.
Nine weeks later, the reality TV star had a miscarriage.
She recalled her husband telling the show’s producers, “You are not coming. We need to grieve alone.”
But, she said, the producers wanted the couple’s “emotions to be fresh” when they discussed it. That scene appeared in the sixth episode of Season 7.
“Somehow, by the grace of God, we got through it,” she said in her book.
“I sat there, speaking in a robotic tone, entirely numb, while Romain did everything he could to shield me from any more pain.”
