It seems the Chiefs aren’t the only Swifties in the league.
When discussing the Commanders’ blowout win Sunday over the Panthers, offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury shared Thursday that the first-ever touchdown scored by rookie tight end Ben Sinnott was on a play named after pop superstar Taylor Swift, the girlfriend of Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
“His first catch was a touchdown, and the play was called ‘Taylor Swift,’ so you can’t really beat that to start your NFL scoring career,” said Kingsbury, who is in his first season as offensive coordinator in Washington.
“He was stoked about it.”
Sinnott, a second-round pick out of Kansas State in the 2024 NFL Draft, caught a 3-yard pass from quarterback Marcus Mariota — relieving an injured Jayden Daniels — in the third quarter to put Washington up, 34-0.
The Commanders eventually ran away with a commanding 40-7 victory to get their fifth win of the season.
Kingsbury added Thursday he had been carrying the play in his back pocket.
“This was new this year,” Kingsbury said. “We probably carried it three weeks and just finally got to calling it.”
This isn’t the first time Swift has been at the center of play calls.
Last year, fans speculated if Bills quarterback Josh Allen called an audible referencing the 14-time Grammy winner during a game. He later confirmed it was “J.R. Smith.”
Swift’s romance with Kelce, 35, has continued to captivate the masses following her first appearance at a Chiefs game in September 2023.
The “Fortnight” singer, 34, attended 13 games last season, including Kansas City’s Super Bowl 2024 victory over the 49ers in Las Vegas.
She has attended three games this season — all Chiefs wins at Arrowhead Stadium.
Kelce, chasing his third straight Super Bowl win and fourth overall with the Chiefs, is still seeking his first touchdown of the season.
The nine-time Pro Bowler has 28 receptions for 245 yards in six games.
The Chiefs (6-0) are trying to stay undefeated in Week 8 when they face the Raiders, while the Commanders (5-2) are hoping to keep their win streak alive with a Sunday showdown against the Bears (4-2).
As for Swift, she’ll be on the road through early December as her Eras Tour wraps its North American leg.
