Saints interim coach Darren Rizzi admits to clogging toilet before first NFL win

Darren Rizzi has no problem being blunt with reporters, and he proved that on Sunday after his first win as interim head coach of the Saints.

Rizzi coached the Saints to a 20-17 win over the Falcons, their first since New Orleans beat the Cowboys in Week 2.

That’s when the man, who described himself as a “pretty open guy,” proceeded to tell reporters that he had clogged his toilet inside the Superdome before the game.

“This is how my day started,” Rizzi said. “I get down to the Superdome. I go in the head coach’s locker room, which I’ve never used before. So here I am, early in the morning, I go to the bathroom. This is how my day started. I clogged the toilet. I’m like, ‘This is gonna be a crappy day.’ Pun intended!

“I’m like, ‘Okay, this is not really a great start to the day. Here we go.’ And so, not really feeling like the head coach of an NFL team right now. I’m like, ‘Really? This is really how we’re gonna start my day?’”

It didn’t seem to end up being a precursor for a bad day since the Saints managed to come away with an important win after the organization opted to dismiss Dennis Allen earlier in the week.

Saints general manager Mickey Loomis had told WWL Radio earlier this week that Allen was a “fantastic football coach” but cited the “abnormal” amount of injuries the team has suffered as part of the reason there was a need for change.

“It just gets right back to what stares at you right in the face is that we’ve had an abnormal amount of injuries, including to our quarterback, and we haven’t been able to overcome that, and so that puts pressure and stress on the organization and ultimately it was cause for a change,” he said.
