Mike Tyson jokes about ‘biting fixation’ after Jake Paul fight reveals glove habit
Mike Tyson may have lost, but at least he kept his sense of humor.
After his unanimous decision loss to Jake Paul on Friday night, Tyson was asked by ring reporter Ariel Helwani about his habit of biting his boxing glove, which caught the eye of many watching the highly anticipated Netflix fight.
“I have a habit of biting my glove, yes,” he said. “I have a biting fixation.”
The post-fight jab drew some uncomfortable chuckles, as it was a clear reference to his 1997 bout rematch with Evander Holyfield, which ended in bizarre fashion as Tyson bit off a part of Holyfield’s ear.
Tyson was disqualified and lost his boxing license for 15 months over the incident.
It’s a history Paul was very aware off, coming to Wednesday’s pre-fight news conference wearing a $200,000 diamond-encased ear cover.
“I’m not getting my s–t bitten off Friday night,” Paul said. “I got my diamond-spiked ear covers.”
It turned out the 27-year-old didn’t need much in the way of protection during the fight, which drew boos from the AT&T Stadium crowd as the combatants spent the final few rounds of their tilt dancing around one another with little action.
Paul may instead have to lend them to his brother Logan, who drew an unofficial challenge from Tyson after the fight.
“F–k, I’ll kill you Mike,” Logan told him.
