The 7 best cold brew coffee brands we reviewed

It could be negative-zero degrees or 100 degrees, and we’ll still gravitate to our cold brew.

It’s the universal pick-me-up that’s so well-varied, it’s difficult for any iced coffee lover not to love. Whether you prefer it straight-up black or with a bit of creamer, it’s sure to wake you up.

So, to take the guesswork out for you, we reviewed seven cold brew coffee brands, highlighting flavor notes (from light to dark roasts) and unique characteristics of each.

Truly, we haven’t been more excited for a product review (after all, we can’t refuse our much-needed glass of coffee).

When testing cold brew coffee, it’s not something we can quantify — in other words, all of these were delicious, and most of these taste the same. But, there’s no harm in that. When you finish one brand, make your way over to the next.

If you want a break from your coffee makers and coffee grinders, read on. These cold brew brands are sure to make you happy and caffeinated.

1. Starbucks: Cold Brew Coffee (6-Count), $17

Of course, I have to kick things off with Starbucks. There’s a reason this internationally celebrated brand caters to bustling, coffee-crazed crowds. Its Cold Brew — the Black + Unsweet — is in a unique mason jar casing and is perfect to toss in your work bag.

But, for the flavor — it’s rich and perfect for those who love bold brews, but can also be lightened up with a creamer or your milk of choice. I found myself loving the taste and feeling like it kept me awake for my 9-to-5.

2. Califia Farms: Cold Brew Black Coffee (6-Pack), $31, original price: $34

Oh, how I now understand the hype surrounding Califia Farms. Known not only for its almond milk and assortment of creamers, but this brand has it going on in the cold brew department. It’s definitely lighter in comparison to the Starbucks cold brew, and “bold and balanced” suits its name perfectly.

3. Lavazza: Organic Cold Brew Coffee Variety Pack (12-Count), $43

Amazon

Perfect for cold brew lovers of all varietals, the Lavazza Organic Cold Brew Coffee Variety Pack is exactly what you need to order from Amazon. Specifically, its four flavors — classic, nitro, cappuccino and double shot — offers you something different each morning and are great to take on the go.

I was a huge fan of the Classic Cold Brew, with the Double Shot Cold Brew coming in as a close second. The Cappuccino Cold Brew is wonderful if you have a sweeter flavor palette, while the Nitro Cold Brew leans a bit more bitter than the rest of the pack.

4. La Colombe: Brazilian Cold Brew (4-Pack), $10

If I could write a love letter to La Colombe, I would. The brand’s signature Brazilian Cold Brew is my favorite on this list, as its just the right boldness and richness for my taste. Plus, it doesn’t have that watered-down coffee taste (even with milk!) For $10, run to Target.

5. Driftaway: Cold Brew, $19 to $68

What’s great about Driftaway’s Cold Brew is its freshly roasted, similar to coffee grinds you’d pick up. Not only is each pack customized with your name, but the unique flavors — some with fruit, others with cocoa — are simply divine.

Its cold brews are offered by the pack (in numerous sizes) and by a subscription model, too, so you can rest assured cold brew will always be shipped directly to your door. Just as good, it makes a phenomenal gift for coffee lovers.

6. Java House: Cold Brew on Tap, $30

If you’re coffee-obsessed like me, you’ll be amazed with Java House’s Cold Brew on Tap. Surprisingly, it doesn’t take up much room in your refrigerator and makes pouring super convenient. I give its Colombian flavor a five out of five stars, while its Espresso Roast ($30) is phenomenal as well (which explains how it has more than 3,000 Amazon reviews).

7. Peet’s True Iced Espresso Black & White Cans (12-Count), $35

Amazon

For lovers of espresso and cold brew alike, Peet’s True Iced Espresso Black & White is a good buy. For one, it has a bold yet sweet taste and is only 100 calories per can. It’s also relatively strong, but also great for lovers of medium roast coffee.

When tasting, I immediately caught notes of its Columbian espresso and creamy milk (think of a black and white cookie!) I don’t always reach for it, but it’s nice to have on hand to mix up your morning (or afternoon) pick-me-up.
