UFC 244: What’s at stake?

Sponsored by:

Five seconds.

That’s how long the fight lasted the last time Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal stepped into the Octagon. He knocked out his opponent, the previously undefeated Ben Askren, in a record-smashing five seconds. If you blinked, you may have missed it, so you’ll want to be ready the next time the No. 3-ranked welterweight enters the cage for UFC 244 on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Madison Square Garden. Catch all the action live on ESPN+ when Masvidal faces off against “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 5 champion Nate Diaz, who beat Anthony Pettis in UFC 241. The two will duke it out for the first-ever BMF Championship Title.

Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal (33-13-0) vs. Nate Diaz (20-11-0) — Main Event
Masvidal wasn’t always accustomed to the bright lights. Before the flying knee heard ’round the world, he started as a backyard brawler largely relying on YouTube for exposure. He became one of the most popular fighters after handing Askren his first career loss in UFC 239. Masvidal is coming off two knockout wins and has emerged victorious in five of his last seven fights.

Jorge Masvidal

Diaz stepped away from the spotlight for a few years before returning to defy the odds and defeat Anthony Pettis during the main-card welterweight bout in UFC 241. He took the win as an opportunity to call out Masvidal, setting the scene for UFC 244. “Jorge Masvidal had a good last fight. All respect to the man, but there ain’t gangsters in this game anymore, there ain’t nobody who does it right but me and him. So, I know my man’s a gangster but he ain’t no West Coast gangster.” Diaz knows how to turn heads, and has gone toe to toe with the best, having faced Conor McGregor in the second- and third-biggest pay-per-views in UFC history, coming away with a 1-1 record vs. “The Notorious” McGregor.

The two fighters are ready to face off: “We’re fighting for the baddest mother****er in the game belt,” said Diaz. “I’m coming to win.”

Kelvin Gastelum (16-3-0) vs. Darren Till (17-2-1) — Co-Main Event
For the middleweight bout, it doesn’t get more exciting than the matchup of No. 4-ranked middleweight Kelvin Gastelum versus No. 8-ranked welterweight Darren “The Gorilla” Till. UFC 244 marks Till’s middleweight debut as he seeks redemption after suffering his first two career losses back to back. Gastelum is looking to leave it all on the table after losing a Fight of the Year candidate match to Israel Adesanya at UFC 236.

Gastelum of San Jose, winner of “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 17, and Till, one of England’s most popular fighters, will put it all on the line before a roaring New York City crowd during this can’t-miss bout only on ESPN+ PPV.
