UFC 276: Why Adesanya vs. Cannonier is the fight you can’t miss

Leading up to the July 4th holiday, the International Fight Week Fan Expo and the UFC Hall of Fame are two major events that will culminate in UFC 276. Two championship fights and a lineup chock-full of big names will battle it out in the main card of UFC 276, exclusively streaming on ESPN+

Teammates Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya and Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski will try to defend their titles against their American challengers, with a stacked card underneath.

 Tune in to this special Saturday night pay-per-view (PPV) event on July 2, available only on ESPN+. The main card begins at 10 p.m. ET.

Main Card: Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya vs. Jared “Tha Killa Gorilla” Cannonier

The main event will feature No. 1-ranked UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, who is making his fifth title defense against KO artist and No. 2-ranked middleweight Jared Cannonier. Nigerian-born New Zealand fighter Adesanya is 22-1 and one of UFC’s more popular fighters, with over 7.6M social media followers and an impressive 15 wins by knockout under his belt. Not only is he popular, but he is ranked as the No. 3 pound-for-pound best fighter in the world.  

Meanwhile, Cannonier is 15-5 and coming in hot off a knockout win over Derek Brunso at UFC 271. He has won five of his past six fights, with four knockouts, and 12 of his past 15 wins are either by knockout or submission. Cannonier has also competed in heavyweight and light heavyweight fights, but he will be fighting for his first UFC championship at UFC 276.

Co-Main Card: Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski vs. Max “Blessed” Holloway

The co-main event is a trilogy title fight between Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway Volkanovski, the UFC featherweight champion, is 24-1 and the No. 2-ranked fighter in the world. Volkanovski won the previous two fights against Holloway at UFC 245 and UFC 251, and is on a 21-fight win streak while coming off a TKO win over “The Korean Zombie” Jung Chan-sung at UFC 273. 

Former UFC featherweight champion Holloway is 23-6, and still holds the record for the longest win streak at 13 in the division. Holloway is on a two-fight win streak, while he most recently beat No. 3-ranked Yair Rodriguez.

Title bout: Women’s Flyweight and Bantamweight 

Former champion Miesha Tate will make her flyweight debut against former title challenger Lauren Murphy. Rising star Sean O’ Malley, coming off a three-fight win streak — all by TKOs — will face No. 10-ranked Pedro Munhoz, who is coming off back-to-back losses in the bantamweight bout.
